Plan now to attend the 2023 SHFM Young Professionals Summit in a new host city: Washington, D.C. This year’s SHFM Young Professional Summit will aim to provide its attendees with an opportunity to learn and apply new personal and professional growth strategies through industry insight and innovative networking.

  • Fear of Failure, or Fear of Success?: What if making a mistake at work was the best thing that ever happened to your career? Find the courage to succeed at work, using 8 proven tools to becoming a more valuable, visible and promotable employee.
  • Fostering Resilience and Finding More Joy: Did you know that being in the hospitality industry can increase risk of burnout? This one is all about navigating burnout in today's world while highlighting the strategies and habits shown to help cultivate a sense of joy in your life and increase resilience. You'll also learn the ins and outs of stress, stress perception, happiness and psychological wellbeing.

3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Professional Headshots
SHFM is providing a professional photographer to capture headshots for attendees. This service is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, so come dressed for the part. This is free of charge and the photographer will shoot each individual in two poses and they will receive two fully retouched images. Come dressed for success!
4:00 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. Session 2: Your Seat at the Table
Back by popular demand! This is your opportunity to have intimate, professional conversations with industry leaders. Join our select industry leaders for small group discussion with tailored questions. We will conclude the Summit with an innovative approach to networking by creating a fun, inspiring and inclusive event for everyone.

Crystal Hamilton, Founder and CEO, Knowbie 

Crystal Hamilton is a passionate change agent for the hospitality sector and has worked in the industry for over 20 years. She is a respected voice in her community advocating for modern training and strategic change management to strengthen the restaurant community across North America. A certified Sommelier with experience building companies from the ground up, Crystal is passionate about creating a healthier, more-resilient hospitality industry for years to come. Part of her vision is to address the high costs of employee turnover while offering all-inclusive training for front-line ambassadors who connect daily with consumers on beverage choices. Her latest venture GetKnowbie.com is a perfectly timed, mobile-friendly training application that is working to power up and maximize revenues for hospitality across North America.

Shauna McQueen, Director of Nutrition and Wellbeing, ISS Guckenheimer

Shauna McQueen M.S., R.D., is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, trained plant-based chef, certified yoga instructor and expert in whole-person health. She’s endlessly curious about motivation, behavior change and why we make the choices we do. She’s provided nutritional strategy and wellbeing content for a range of clients and outlets including Spotify, Barclays, The Institute for Integrative Nutrition, Yoga Journal, The Vegetarian Times, Blum Center for Health and more.

Erin-Kate Whitcomb, Founder/CEO, Working Courage

Known as a "Boss Whisperer", Erin-Kate Whitcomb has made it her life's work to elevate leaders, often being the last in the room for the big decisions. Having worked in multiple industries including CPG sales, investment banking, tech, academia and healthcare, she has observed and learned from and about many different personalities and is able to navigate even the toughest work situations. Erin-Kate's ability to identify and resolve negative interpersonal dynamics, find and remove roadblocks, see new opportunities through a creative lens - while ensuring she is always of service - are skills she brings to bear that help any company or employee shine. She has created tools that demystify the science of understanding and applying emotional intelligence, vulnerability and courage at work.  You can't change others, but you can change your response to them and be the change agent - here, there and everywhere.  And you can even keep your sense of humor.
