As we wrap up an unforgettable 2024, the Society for Hospitality and Foodservice Management (SHFM) has a lot to celebrate after a year of outstanding achievements and milestones. From record-breaking attendance to expanding its reach to students and strengthening its sponsorship base, SHFM has had an incredible year of success. Here’s a look at some of the association’s notable accomplishments this year:

Inaugural WISE Experience

One of the most significant highlights of 2024 was the launch of the inaugural WISE Experience event, held last February in El Segundo, California. This groundbreaking event brought together over 100 women in the hospitality and foodservice industries to celebrate Wisdom, Inspiration, Support, and Excellence (WISE). We are still talking about the impact of this event today! The event was a resounding success, offering valuable networking opportunities, insightful discussions and a platform for empowering women in the industry. SHFM is already preparing for the second annual WISE Experience on January 13-14, 2025, in Napa, California. With an impressive foundation laid in 2024, the future of WISE Experience looks promising for years to come.

A Record-Breaking 45th Anniversary Celebration

Another standout moment for SHFM this year was the 45th Anniversary celebration at the SHFM National Conference in Baltimore, Maryland. The conference, themed Evolving Hospitality: Celebrating the Past and Fueling the Future, set a record with 622 attendees. The event was not only a celebration of SHFM’s rich history but also a platform for discussing the future of hospitality and foodservice management. It was a memorable occasion where industry leaders and professionals gathered to learn, connect and celebrate the continued evolution of the field. Will we see you in Palm Springs for the 2025 SHFM National Conference?

Record Funds Raised for a Worthy Cause

For the third consecutive year, SHFM’s annual Foundation Gala SOLD OUT, proving to once again be the hottest ticket of the year to snag. The gala, which has become a cornerstone of the association’s philanthropic efforts, raised the most funds since its inception in 2022. The proceeds from the event will support the SHFM Foundation’s programs, which provide scholarships, education and resources to support the next generation of hospitality and foodservice professionals. The once again sold-out event and record-breaking funds are a testament to the generosity and commitment of SHFM’s members to give back to the community.

Record-Breaking Student Engagement

The growing student membership and university chapters are a clear reflection of SHFM’s dedication to supporting future leaders in the industry. This year, SHFM added new student chapters at universities across the United States, bringing the total to five: CalPolyPomona, East Tennessee State, Johnson & Wales University, Michigan State University and Virginia State University. These chapters provide students with the opportunity to connect with industry professionals, gain valuable insights and lay the groundwork for successful careers in hospitality and foodservice management.

Record-Breaking Sponsorships and Membership Growth

In addition to record-breaking attendance and successful events, SHFM saw impressive growth in sponsorship and membership. The association had its highest level of sponsorship in 2024, demonstrating the increasing value and importance of SHFM’s events and programs to partners in the industry. On top of that, membership numbers surpassed 806—reaching pre-pandemic levels, a clear statement of SHFM’s continued presence and appeal to professionals across the hospitality and foodservice sectors.
