Letter from the President
Greetings SHFM Community:

The Society welcomed the Spring season with a fabulous and relevant Critical Issues Conference on April 12 at The Time Warner Center in New York City!  Whether you were part of the planning, execution, sponsorship, speaker roster or attendance, I extend a huge “Thank You,” for making the 2016 CIC a great success. The 2016 CIC realized record sponsorship and attendance this decade, a great acknowledgement to our hosts at The Time Warner Center and the CIC planning team!

With the overarching theme, “Harnessing the Hashtag: Communication Strategies for a Digital Age,” it was only fitting that we introduced the first phase of the SHFM association app, which provided details about the conference from location and logistics to speakers and sponsors. Look for app phase two soon, when we will introduce the full association app, and you will be able to stay connected with peers via social media, access the membership directory, stay “in the know,” and register for all upcoming events.

April also welcomed two local events: Chicago held a local on April 20 at RATIONAL Headquarters, featuring culinary trends by all the leading contract foodservice organizations. Boston stepped out of the traditional box and onto the baseball field where they hosted a local event at a Boston Red Sox game on April 28.  WOW – both great, well attended, educational and exciting.

As we move through the latter part of Spring, we are looking forward to the Foundation’s Annual Golf Tournament at Elmwood Country Club in White Plains, NY on May 11. Join me, as I hack my way through 18 holes, for the very worthy cause of supporting the SHFM Foundation and its many scholarships. On June 2, Charlotte will host their local event, followed by DC’s event in late June. Check the SHFM website and app (soon) for more details and registration.

Based on your feedback, we are also exploring alliances with “sister” organizations and have been speaking at length with NAMA (National Association of Automated Merchandisers), who has developed a textbook on the ever evolving micro market.  NAMA is holding a half day class on May 11 and is extending the NAMA member rate to SHFM members. For more information, check the SHFM website.

We are in the midst of a strong year because of the efforts of a much larger team that keeps our momentum moving forward and our community strong. I am honored and proud to be at its helm.

As always, I welcome your thoughts or ideas and encourage you to get involved.

Until July, my warmest regards,

Bernadette Ventura | SHFM President
