9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Mission Garden Tour & Salsa Challenge - Sold Out!
(Optional: Additional cost for participation)

This year’s SHFM conference location provides a rare agricultural tour opportunity. Explore a living agricultural museum of Sonoran Desert-adapted heritage fruit trees, traditional local heirloom crops, and edible native plants. Located in an area sacred to the Tohono O’odham tribe, Mission Garden is the site of Tucson’s birthplace, where archaeologists have documented 4,100 years of continuous cultivation. Crops from these cultural heritage plots have proven to be productive, sustainable, and well-adapted to this climate and location.

The group will be greeted by a sanctuary expert and guided through the crops that are currently being cultivated/preserved and the archaeological finds in the area. The tour will culminate under the Mission Garden pergola for a salsa making competition. After the challenge, guests can enjoy their creations and the gardens at their leisure before returning to the hotel.

All participants must wear closed toed shoes to participate. Long pants, sleeves, sunblock and a hat are recommended. All functions will be outdoors.

Secure your spot on this unique tour by including it when you register for conference!

Cost: $95 per person.
